Components (魔材, mazai) is the term used by witches to refer to the tools used to cast magic.
Description[]

The primary component to draw or "cast" magic is woodcruor, a substance derived from the silverwood tree. Only magic seals drawn with woodcruor will activate. Woodcruor can be formed into hardened rods known as woodcruor wands. This basic tool can be used to draw directly on various surfaces, but the resulting lines are easily rubbed away.[1]
More commonly, woodcruor is boiled with water to produce conjuring ink.[2] The resulting ink can be diluted to different concentrations or mixed with various magical dyes to imbue it with additional effects.[3] Component pestles are used to grind solid ingredients to be added to ink.[1]
Conjuring ink is typically used with ordinary dip pens, referred to by witches as "wands." There is a great variety in the types of "wands" used, and they are chosen to best accommodate the witch using them, and the drawing task at hand.[4] For example, Coco is extremely proficient at using pigment stones (from her experience growing up as a tailor's daughter), but they are best suited for drawing straight lines only.[5]

Witches also tend to carry various notebooks so that paper for casting is always readily available. Spells may also be prepared in advance and kept in notebooks, waiting to be activated quickly upon completion of their respective rings.[6] Palm quires are a type of small, round notebook especially favored by witches, as their shape and size make it easy to conceal casting from the unknowing.[1]
Components are made and sold in special, magical stationary shops, such as The Starry Sword in Kahln.[2] These shops also sell items for storing and organizing components such as ink pots and witch's belts.[3]
