Summary[]
Qifrey reminisces about the banning of magic drawn on people’s bodies, a decision that medical witches were opposed to. The twin bottle spell was magic used in the past by medical witches to easily transport medicine to ill people across vast distances.
Since the Brimmed Cap Group tampered with Coco’s conjuring ink by using a twin bottle, Qifrey believes he can use it to track them down by using a magical compass. Before he can remove the medal engraved with gylphs at the bottom of Coco’s ink bottle, he gets attacked by a lightning spell coming from the bottle. He just barely manages to shield himself, realizing the Brim Hats have noticed him trying to remove the medal and are using the twin bottles to attack him.
Water starts pouring from the bottle, and Qifrey becomes trapped in a whirlpool. Unable to draw spells while submerged, he nearly drowns. But the water flows back into the bottle. The Brimmed Cap witch who gave Coco a forbidden magic book appears before Qifrey, breaking Coco’s bottle, preventing Qifrey from using it. He disappears as swiftly as he came. Qifrey declares he won’t give up until he takes back what the Brim Hats stole from him. Somewhere else, the Brimmmed Cap witch laments having had to destroy the bottle after all the trouble he went through to give it to Coco.
The next morning, both Coco and Qifrey look tired. The other apprentices reprimend Coco for drawing all night instead of sleeping, since good magic requires food and rest. Tetia asks Qifrey if she should make medicinal tea, but notices Qifrey is drowsy aswell. Qifrey brushes off their concers and goes out to get more tea. Coco tells Agott she wants to show her something.
Coco gives Agott her Sylph Shoes back. Agott realizes the reason Coco didn’t sleep was because she wanted to draw the seal on the shoes well. She asks Coco why she didn’t tell Qifrey that Agott pushed her into taking the first exam. Coco answers that she didn’t tell anything because she accepted the challenge and grew from that experience. Suddenly, Coco faints.
Agott uses her Sylph Shoes to reach Qifrey quickly and tells him Coco has gotten sick. Qifrey rushes Coco to Karoon. In the city, Tartah is on his was to catch the ferry that will get him to the island where he lives, lamenting he’s unable to simply fly where he needs. He runs into Qifrey and Coco, and goes with them to the hospital. There, the boy tells Qifrey he would like to ask him a question.
